Daniel G. Bocanegra, 85, of Gibsonburg, died early Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at Parkview Health Care Center in Fremont. He was born on January 3, 1923 in Odem, TX to Tito and Guadalupe (Garcia) Bocanegra. On August 6, 1943, he married Celia Guerra in Brownsville, TX and she preceded him in death on December 3, 2004. Daniel lived in the community since 1951 and was a general laborer at Pfizer until retiring in 1983. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, where he was an usher and also a member of the Guadalupe Society.
Surviving are sons, Santos (Virginia) Bocanegra and Gilbert Bocanegra of Fremont; daughters, Olga (Lester) Mendoza Miller of Gibsonburg and Lucia (Michael) Claxton of Longview, WA; 9 grandchildren: Regina Bocanegra Gamboa, Sara Wehring, Elena Bocanegra, Daniel Bocanegra, Lisa Robles, Richard Mendoza Jr., Rebecca Goehring, Marcus Claxton, and Maria Claxton; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Crispen Bocanegra and Beatrice MacDonald of Lubbock, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Juan Daniel; brothers, Tito Jr. and Guadalupe; sisters, Matilda Reyes and Rosa Segovia and grandson, Santos Bocanegra Jr.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 21, 2008 from 2-8p.m.at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Gibsonburg. A Funeral Mass will be said on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michaels Catholic Church with Rev. Ted Miller officiating. Burial will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery.
