John E. Borer, 71, of Fremont entered the Kingdom of heaven on Monday, March 5, 2007 after a brave struggle with several years of failing health. He was the son of John A. and Clarina (Clouse) Borer, born on February 12, 1936 in Fremont, OH. He attended Old Fort School, and served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 in France. John worked at Fremont Glass and Trico Glass, Fostoria for the next 22 years. In 1979, John started his own business, Borer Mirror and Glass. He took great pride in his work to satisfy his loyal customers making many friends along the way until retiring in 1999. He loved his family and enjoyed traveling with them every chance he could. He had many good friends and neighbors all of whom shall remember the good old days. He was a life member of the American Legion and VFW, serving as Commander and Trustee of the American Legion as well as a member of the Honor Guard along with a member of the Fraternal Order of the Moose. John was a longtime member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, serving terms as a deacon and trustee. He also served for several years on Ballville Township Board for Connor Park.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Barbara (Flick); son, John W. (Chris) Borer of Romeo, MI; daughters, Brenda Lowery of Livonia, MI and Betsy Offenburg of Fremont. He was a proud grandpa to granddaughters Lindsay Lowery and Abby Offenburg. Also surviving are sisters, Elly Kramb, Ellen (Richard) May of Fremont, Joan Halm of Gahanna; brother, James (Mary) Borer of Bucyrus; brothers in law Roger & John (Gisela) Flick; sisters in law, Dorothy Ault and Joanna Borer. He is preceded in death by his parents, beloved mom in law, LaRue Bowersox, brothers, Herman Borer, Robert Borer, Bernard Borer, Donald Borer and sister, Eileen Gegorski.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 8 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. Services will be on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Johns Lutheran Church with Pastor Robert Quillen officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Johns Lutheran Church or Habitat for Humanity.
