Melvin Mel F. Diekman, 86 of Fremont died Thursday, June 15, 2006 at Memorial Hospital. He was born on March 22, 1920 in Ottawa County to Henry & Helen (Winker) Diekman. Mel was a 148th Infantry Company D US Army veteran serving during WWII. Mel was a farmer and worked for Rural Serv for 34 years until 1986. On April 22, 1945 he married Helen Nuhfer at Woodville EUB Church. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, enjoyed yard work, gardening and playing cards. Surviving along with his wife are children, Carroll (Connie) Diekman of Millbury and Paulette (Steve) Liskai of Gibsonburg, grandchildren, Craig (Jeanette) Diekman, Kevin (Lisa) Diekman, Jason (Chrissa) Liskai and Jodie Jones. Eleven great-grandchildren also survive Mel. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers; Ralph & Clarence and sister; Dorothy Wertz. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 18, 2006 at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont from 1-3 & 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 19, 2006 at Faith Lutheran Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow at Westwood Cemetery, Woodville with military rights provided by the American Legion & VFW. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or donors choice.
