Bernice M. Doren, 97, formerly of Fremont, died Saturday morning, June 25th at the Oaks of Avon Nursing Home, Avon Park, FL. She was born on January 27, 1908 in Fremont, to O.L. and Alta (Fast) Immel. Bernice was a 1925 graduate of Fremont Ross High School and a 1929 graduate of Bowling Green State University where she earned her teaching certificate. On August 1, 1931, she married Lawrence R. Doren and he died in 1995. Bernice taught grade school in Greenwich, OH and York Schools for 23 years until her retirement in1969. She was a member of the Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church in Fremont, Ohio State Teachers Assoc., the Ohio and Sandusky County Retired Teachers Assoc., Order of the Eastern Star of North Fairfield, OH and she enjoyed gardening and writing poetry.
Surviving Bernice are her daughter, Carol (Donald) Roper, New Paltz, NY, son, Dean (Colleen) Doren, Avon Park, FL, sister, Verneita Hausman, Houghton Lake, MI, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister Mildred Charlton.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 30th at 1:00 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Fremont, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Fremont. Pastor Denise Turpin will officiate.
