Fremont resident Ruth E. Erb, age 78, died at her home Saturday evening, October 6.
She was born March 21, 1929 in Riley Township, Fremont to Frank and Amelia (Ohms) Shiets. A 1947 graduate of Ross High School, Ruth married Duane Dewey Erb on May 14, 1949 at the St. Johns Lutheran Church in Fremont. He survives.
Ruth was a homemaker and a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church and its Ruth Circle. Genealogy was very important to Ruth as she researched and wrote the complete Shiets Family Tree. Ruth was a very loving wife and mother, making breakfast and lunch for her children every day while they were in school. Ruth cherished her grandchildren and enjoyed writing poetry, line dancing with the Sandusky County Senior Center, and travelling. She and her husband visited all 50 states.
Surviving her are her children Dorothy Dottie (Ken) Magee of Sacramento, CA, Nora Erb of Columbus and Jerry (Cesca) Erb of Bloomington, IL, grandchildren Johnna Magee, Becca Magee, T.J. Erb, and Corey Erb, sibling Mrs. Gladys Sterling, Mrs. (Richard) Iva Baker, Mrs. Agnes Willis, and Lois Shiets all of Fremont.
She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings Cleo Shiets and Mrs. Grace Shetenhelm.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 10, 10:30 a.m. at the St. Johns Lutheran Church in Fremont where her body will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral. Pastor Robert Quillen will officiate. Friends will be welcomed at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont on Tuesday 7-9 p.m. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde.
