Jane G. Fausey

March 5, 1926 — April 21, 2011

Jane G. Fausey died Thursday, April 21, 2011, at her farm home in Gibsonburg.

Born Jane Cartwright Gousha on March 5, 1926, to Paul Talbot and Emma Cartwright Gousha in Overlea, Maryland, she was a graduate of Kenwood High School in the Baltimore County School District in 1943. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Heidelburg College in 1947 and a Master of Education degree from The Johns Hopkins University in 1954. She completed 24 hours towards her Doctorate of Education at The University of Toledo.

Jane exemplified a strong work ethic and was employed at various jobs throughout her life: retail clerk, housekeeper, telephone operator, social worker, elementary school teacher, and most recently as secretary for Homes Casas, Inc. in Fremont. She operated a small farm apple and cider stand with her husband for over 20 years where she was known affectionately as "The Apple Lady" and graciously welcomed and enjoyed visiting with customers of all ages. The bulk of her professional career was spent as Assistant Professor of Education at Heidelburg College for over 20 years where she taught Education and English courses and worked extensively and diligently with student teachers in coursework, advising, scheduling, and direct classroom supervision.

She was a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Gibsonburg--most recently Trinity United Methodist Church in Bowling Green--where she served on numerous church committees and as Lay Leader and Northwest Ohio United Methodist Conference Delegate. She was also a member of The American Association of University Women, Kappa Delta Pi Honorary, The National Education Association, Gibsonburg Garden Club, and devoted many years to Sandusky County Habitat for Humanity.

Jane was an avid reader and active patron and supporter of Birchard Public Library. She remained an ardent gardener throughout her life and spent many happy and productive hours working with her flowers and vegetables where she could often be seen accompanied by her beloved dog, Ruby. Always optimistic and cheerful, she was faithful and loyal to family and friends and was happiest in the company of those whom she loved and cherished.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Fausey, on December 2, 1986. Surviving are brother Richard P. Gousha of San Jose, California; daughter Rebecca J. Fausey (Kevin M. Lause) of Gibsonburg; step-daughters Barbara (Ken) Schmidt of Leesburg, Florida and Verna Margaret Fausey of Nashville, Tennessee; 2 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a niece and nephew; and great-niece and great-nephew.

Per the wishes of the deceased, there will be no visitation or funeral services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Birchard Public Library of Sandusky County.

The family would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to the staff of Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their exemplary and compassionate care during Jane's lengthy illness, most especially Denise Hornyak and Danielle Anderson for their skill, dedication, and friendship.
