Norman Joseph Gabel

Norman J. Gabel, 79, of Fremont passed away on Sunday, October 03, 2010 at Valley View Health Care Center. He was born on October 28, 1930 in Fremont to Harold J. & Theresa E. (Eberly) Gabel. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1948 and attended John Carroll University for one year. During the Korean War, from 1951- 1955, Norman served in the U.S. Navy. On April 23, 1955 he married M. Therese Wagner in Tiffin, Ohio. Norman was a Partner in Gabel Oil & Tire Company for 30 years retiring in 1992.

He served on the St. Joseph Parish Council, was a past Faithful Navigator of De Soto Assembly of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, served on the Advisory Board of St. Francis Rehab Hospital. He was a St. Joseph Central Catholic High School volunteer, member of the SJCC Booster Club, SJCC Alumni & Friends Heritage Award winner in 2005, Memorial Hospital Mobile Meals Volunteer and Memorial Hospital Hospice Program Volunteer.

Surviving are his wife; children, Deborah M. (Steve) Billow of Fremont, Michael J. (Elizabeth) Gabel of Fremont, Robert N. (Kimberly) Gabel of Fremont and Mark W. (Diane) Gabel of Columbus; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; siblings Kenneth H. (Pat) Gabel and Barbara A. (Jim) Denman.

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mary E. Gabel; siblings, Harold E. Bud Gabel and Marilyn L. Swint.

Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 - 4 p.m. & 6 - 9 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont where there will be a vigil that evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fremont. Rev. David Bruning will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Central Catholic High School, St. Jude Childrens Hospital or to the School of Hope.
