James Emerson Garn

James Emerson Garn, 83 of Gibsonburg, died early Monday, December 5th, 2005 at home. He was born in Gibsonburg to Harry and Carrie (Schepman) Garn. He married Clarabelle Widmer on November 13, 1943 in San Diego, California. He is survived by his beloved wife, Clarabelle, and daughters Diane (Thomas) Ruggiero of Gibsonburg, Nancy (Robert) Hess of Kalamazoo, Michigan and Kathy (Robert) Sweeney of Fremont, Ohio; sister, Lois Corfman; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and 20 step-great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his parents and brothers Vincent, Ray, Willard, and infant sister Mildred.

Jim spent his entire career in the dolomite lime operation in Gibsonburg. After graduation from Gibsonburg High School in 1939, he was employed by Gibsonburg Lime Products Company, later becoming Vice-President of Sales. After Chas. Pfizer Company purchased Gibsonburg Lime Products Company he remained as Sales and Marketing Manager until his retirement in February, 1982. He was a life member of Faith United Methodist Church serving on many committees during the years, including chairman of the building committee when the present church was built to replace the one destroyed by fire in 1957. He was a Mason and a life member of the American Legion. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving as an Aviation Machinist Mate 1st Class. Jims hobby for over forty years was building and flying Radio Controlled (R.C.) model aircraft. He and his wife also enjoyed traveling all over the world. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and many friends. Visitation will be Thursday from 3-7 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Gibsonburg. Services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church where the body will lie in state for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at West Union Cemetery with military rites by the Gibsonburg Post of the American Legion. Memorials may be made to Faith United Methodist Church, Gibsonburg or Hospice of Memorial Hospital.
