Ruby Garn, 91, formerly of W. Madison St., Gibsonburg, died early Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Bethesda Care Center, Fremont. She was born on June 4, 1918 in Middlesboro, KY to John and Katherine (Owens) Byrd. Ruby attended Bowling Green High School. On February 6, 1948 she married Ray Garn in Gibsonburg, and he preceded her in death on March 31, 1991. She was a sales person at several stores in Chicago and Toledo, but glowed in the role as Gibsonburgs First Lady where her husband served as mayor in the 60s and 70s. Ruby was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Gibsonburg, a lifetime member of the Eastern Star, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Republican Women.
Surviving Ruby are many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers George, Ben and Stan Byrd; sister, Verda King; and step-father Francis Davies.
Respecting Rubys wishes there will be no visitation, but a graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donors choice or to Bethesda Care Center Activities Fund, Fremont, or Faith United Methodist Church, Gibsonburg.
