Robert C. Giesler, 82 of Fremont, died on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at his home. He was born on April 27, 1926 in Sandusky County to the now deceased Fred and Freda (Beck) Giesler. Robert attended Elmore schools. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, during WWII in the South Pacific from 1944-1946 and served on the USS Manila Bay as a GM2. On July 3, 1948 he married Carla Wandtke at Epiphany Church in Toledo and she preceded him in death on October 28, 1974. Robert was a very active member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. He was a delivery driver for Tonys Bakery and the Peter Eckrich Company until retiring in 1988. Robert enjoyed country music, bowling, polka dancing and music, traveling and walking.
Surviving are his daughters, Debra Lehman and Kimberly Giesler both of Fremont and a grandson, Aaron Giesler; siblings, Shirley (Ray) Toeppe , Kermit (Karen) Giesler both of Fremont, Russell (Sandy) Giesler of TN, Donald (Marie) Giesler of Woodville; sister-in-law, Harriet Young of Luckey and special friend, Joan Zimmerman of Port Clinton. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son, Gregory; a granddaughter, Jamie Giesler; siblings, Gaylord, Calvin , Florence Dickman, Ethel Frania, and Carolyn Huff; fiance Virginia Scholl in 1992.
Visitation will be on Monday, January 5, 2009 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. Services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Certified Celebrant, Maureen Pump officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery with military rites provided by the Fremont American Legion and the VFW.
