Gary Norman Hasselbach

Gary N. Hasselbach, 67, of rural Fremont died Wednesday, October 11, 2006 at Fremont Memorial Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Fremont on April 18, 1939 to Norman and Alma (Kiser) Hasselbach. Mr. Hasselbach was a graduate of Fremont Ross High School, class of 1957. On November 1, 1958 he married Darlene Orndorff and she survives. He served in the U.S. Army during the Bay of Pigs and the Cuban Missile Crisis in the early 1960s. Mr. Hasselbach was a third-generation meat cutter and owner of Hasselbach Meats, who for many years was a member of the Ohio Association of Meat Processors. He served on the Associations Board of Directors, and for a time, as President. Mr. Hasselbach was also a member of the National Association of Meat Processors where he sat on the Board of Directors. Citing time restraints, he declined the Presidency. Hasselbach Meats has won numerous awards nationwide. He was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church where he served on Church Council, the Endowment Committee and the Call Committee. He enjoyed cooking, especially outdoors and watching baseball, football and stockcar racing on television. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Darlene and mother, Alma, both of Fremont; sisters, Gail (Dennis) Henderson of Wilmington, NC and Kay (Jerry) Letzring of Fremont; sons, Eric Rick of Elyria, David (Marsha) and Paul (Joni) both of Fremont. Survivors also include grandchildren, Erin, Erica and Amy of Sheffield Lake, Ohio; Kortni, Tyler, Christa, Daniel and Kristen, all of Fremont; numerous nieces and nephews as well as beloved in-laws. He was preceded in death by his father, Norman in 1995. Friends may call on Saturday, October 14 from 2-9 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 900 North St., Fremont.

Services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 705 West State St., Fremont with one hour of visitation at church prior to the service. Pastor Paul Gruetter will be officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Kingsway. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Grace Lutheran Church Boiler Fund and the American Cancer Society, 1045 North Main St., Bowling Green, OH 43402.
