James A. Haubert

Life long Jackson Township resident James A. Haubert, 71, died at his Helena home Thursday evening May 17, 2007. Born August 7, 1935 in Fremont to the now deceased Ambrose and Dolores (Hoffman) Haubert, Jim worked on the farm all his life. A member of the St. Marys Catholic Church in Millersville, he never lived more than 3 miles from the church. He served on the churchs finance committee and the parish council. For more than 20 years he has been on the churchs cemetery board, serving as its president most of that time. He attended his first 8 years of school at St. Marys, as did his children. He graduated from Jackson-Burgoon (Lakota) High School in 1954. On April 16, 1955 he married Barbara Semer at St. Marys. She survives in Helena. While his children were in Lakota High School, Jim was active in the Young Farmers Association, served as president on the Athletic Boosters, and served 2 terms on the Lakota School Board. He was also involved in many farming community groups, a member of the Sandusky County Farm Bureau Board, serving one term as president and active in their local farm council group, the Sandusky County Pork Producers and the Ohio Hampshire Breeders Association. He served as Chairman of the Swine Barn Improvement Project at the Sandusky County Fairgrounds and was selected as the 1988 Sandusky County Chamber of Commerce Farmer of the Year. He also served on the Sugar Beet Growers Board and was a former Helena Fire Department Volunteer. Jim enjoyed family activities, going on vacations, sports, gardening, fishing and hunting. Surviving him, in addition to his wife of over 52 years, is his children Timothy (Jeanne) of Burgoon, Gregory (Rene`) of Tiffin, Elizabeth (Michael) Gabel of Fremont, Rebecca (Trace) OBrien of Sylvania and Mary (Mark) Manning of Grafton, sister Joanne Ochs of Fremont, brother Donald (Jean) Haubert of Helena, 20 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his parents, sons James Jr., Philip and Joseph and siblings Janet Karbler and William and Donna Haubert. Funeral services will be Monday, May 21, 2007 11:00 a.m., at the St. Marys Catholic Church in Millersvillle. Fr. Ted Miller & Fr. Ron Brickner will officiate. Visitation will be on Sunday, May 20, 2007 from 2-9 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Gibsonburg where vigil services will be that evening. Burial will be at St. Marys Cemetery, Millersville. Memorial contributions in Jims memory may be made to St. Joseph Central Catholic High School, Fremont, St. Marys Catholic Church or to Hospice of Memorial Hospital.
