Sherman R. Havens

September 4, 1909 — March 13, 2005

Sherman Robert Havens, 95, died at his home in Burgoon early Sunday morning. He was born on September 4, 1909 in Jackson Township to Russell and Ada (Smith) Havens. His grandmother was Emma Betts Smith. He married Marguerite T. Pearson on April 9, 1932. She preceded him in death February 6th, 1991. Sherman graduated from Jackson Burgoon High School and was a lifelong farmer. He also worked at Basic Inc., Carbon Works, for the Railroad and was a salesman. Sherman was a member of Burgoon United Methodist Church and he taught Sunday School there for 30 years. Surviving are children Joan R. (Fred) Cooney, Burgoon, David R. (Karen) Havens, Reynoldsburg, grandchildren Jennifer (Claude) Schindorff, Burgoon & Betty Jo Cooney, Fostoria, David (Beth) Haven, Jonathan (Jennifer) Havens, Blacklick, OH, James M. Havens, US Navy, Elizabeth (Mike) Benvie, Heath, OH and Deborah (Paul) Berger, Upper Sandusky, great-grandchildren Adrienne Cooney, Holly Ann Schindorff, Vivian Josephine Havens, Caleb Sherman Havens, Jonathan, Leah, Thomas and Joseph Benvie and Marie McKenzie Berger. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife and sister Ruth E. Stump. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 12:30 2:00 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Fremont. Services will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Martha Gross officiating. Burial will be at Smith Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Burgoon United Methodist Church, Gideon Bible Society or Hospice of Memorial Hospital.
