Harold M. Hawk, 93, of Fremont, died Saturday, April 2nd at the Rutherford House. He was born on August 1, 1911 to Bruce and Bertha (Brode) Hawk in Clyde, OH.
He was a 1930 graduate of Fremont Ross High School. He married Helen Viola Fellows at St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Lansing, Michigan on June 28, 1933. She died February 2, 1998. He is survived by three children: Berta Zilles of Ontario, CA, Navy Captain (retired) Bruce (Barbara) Hawk of Pensecola, FL, and Barry (Brenda) Hawk of Fremont. He also is survived by seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Mr. Hawk and his wife founded the H & H Lumber Company on North Street and operated it until they retired in 1973. He was active in Boy Scouts winning many awards. He started the first cub pack in Fremont in 1935 at St. Pauls Episcopal Church, Troop 301 where he was the scoutmaster. He was the Scoutmaster and later Explorer Advisor for Troop 307 at Grace Lutheran Church where he had fifteen boys attain the Eagle Award and two boys the silver award in exploring.
Retiring in 1973, Mr. Hawk continued to enjoy hunting and fishing, making furniture and Curio Cabinets. At his home, Lolly Lake, he and his wife planted thousands of trees and flowers and raised several breeds of swans. He raised and trained Golden Retrievers for 45 years.
He was a life member and past president of Demars Point Hunting Club, life member of Izaak Walton, member of the Fremont Carpenters Union, a member of the Fremont Elks and Moose. He was also a member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church, Fremont.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 9th at 11 a.m. at St. Pauls Episcopal Church, Fremont.
Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Hawks name to St. Pauls Episcopal Church, Fremont or the Izaak Walton League, CR 170, Fremont.
