Allen "Sonny" D. Heminger

Oregon resident Allen Sonny Heminger, 72, died early Sunday, August 22, 2010 at his home. He was born in Gibsonburg on November 4, 1937 to the now deceased Walter and Delores (Pugh) Heminger. He was a graduate of Gibsonburg High School, and worked for many years in air conditioning and refrigeration. On October 1, 1999 he married Sherrie Sullivan, and they were together for seventeen years.

Sonny was employed by Pepsi for 28 years, the City of Oregon Street Department for 14 years and he served with the Volunteer Fire Department of Oregon for 24 years, having achieved the rank of lieutenant. He was an avid sportsman. Sonny enjoyed hunting with his son, Scott, snowmobiling with his wife and friends, and camping. He will be missed by his camping friends. Sonny was fondly called Pepsiman by his fishing buddies and was a well-known trap shooter. Sonny was a family man who loved his grandkids and going to family gatherings. He loved living life and his favorite saying was I said. He will be greatly missed by his dogs, Tilley and Daisy.

Along with his wife, survivors include children, Terri (Gary) Donnell of Woodville, Scott (Karen) Heminger of Perrysburg and Laurie (Kelly) Gadus of Oregon; siblings, Marilyn (John) Moore, Don Heminger, Larry Heminger, Sissy Lease, and Dan (Sharon) Heminger; seven grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Norma Diebley and Wanda Heminger.

Visitation will be at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Gibsonburg on Wednesday, August 25 from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Fritz Merkes officiating. Burial will follow at West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg.

His family wishes to express their gratitude to ProMedica Hospice, the Genoa Care Center and the Lake Park Comfort Care Unit.
