Mary Rita (Kowaleski) Herman, age 80, of Gibsonburg and most recently of Elmwood Assisted Living of Fremont died Monday morning, September 22, at the St. Vincents Mercy Medical Center.
Mary was born in Fremont to the now deceased Anthony and Loretta (Steinberger) Kowaleski, attended St. Casimirs Catholic Elementary and graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in 1946. She worked as a telephone operator for Ohio Bell in Fremont, Tiffin and in Toledo where she retired after thirty years of service. Throughout that time she had also helped her husband own and operate the former Chucks Super Dollar Store in Gibsonburg. Charles died in December 1992.
Mary liked to travel and was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Gibsonburg and its Altar Rosary Society. She also assisted the Sandusky County Board of Elections by working at the voting polls during election times.
Surviving her are her children Vicky (Ron) Franklin of Phoenix, AZ, Cathy (Dan) Clements of Glendale, AZ, Sandy (Brent) Glasscock of Findlay and Cheri (Dave) Miller of Lindsey and grandchildren Cristen and Kyle Franklin, Nicholas and Alex Clements and Sarah and Caroline Miller.
Mary is preceded in death by son Rick Herman and brothers Raymond and John Kowaleski.
Funeral services will be held at the St. Michaels Catholic Church in Gibsonburg on Saturday, September 27 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Gibsonburg on Friday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Vigil services will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Fremont.
Memorial contributions may to St. Michaels Catholic Church or to the St. Joseph Central Catholic High School.
