Paul J. Herr died peacefully Monday evening, May 28, at his Fremont home surrounded by his family. He was 82. Paul was born in Gibsonburg, OH on February 11, 1925 to the now deceased Harry and Metta (Ferrenburg) Herr. A graduate of Gibsonburg High School, Paul served in the Army, 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Division, during WW II. He was one of the many that took part in the D-Day invasion of Normandy and later, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. Upon his return home, he married Betty Annie Mierke on September 14, 1947 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Gibsonburg. She survives. Paul worked at the Sunshine Biscuit Company in Fremont, retiring as its Plant Superintendent on May 1, 1990. Paul was a member of the Fremont Moose Lodge and the Fremont American Legion Post. He enjoyed woodworking and traveling. Also surviving are his children Paula (John) Quirk of Altanta, Connie (Mike) Amor of Fremont, Pamela Williford of Austin and Jeffrey (Amy) Herr of Atlanta, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. His brother, Norwood Herr and sisters Catherine Hughes and Mary Marjorie Schuett precede Paul in death. Memorial services with military rites performed by the Fremont American Legion and VFW Posts will be Friday, June 1st, 10 am. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. Certified Celebrant, Maureen Pump will officiate. Family and friends will be welcomed at the funeral home Thursday 2-4 and 7-9pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Pauls memory may be made to the Memorial Hospital Home Health and Hospice.
