Albert (Al) Daniel Hetrick, Sr., 87, died Thursday, April 14, at the Ohio State Medical Center surrounded by loved ones. Al was born December 7, 1917 to Harry and Edwina (Stowe) Hetrick in Fremont where he lived his entire life. He married Cleone Bickley in 1938 in Greenup, KY and they had five children. He was a member of the Army Air Corp serving during World War II in Tinian in the Philippines. Al was a salesman at heart and owned both used car and new car dealerships over the years, was the former owner of the Globe Restaurant on East State Street and sold real estate after semi-retirement. As a firm believer in community service, Al was president of the Fremont Chamber of Commerce, active with the church, the Shriners and the local auto dealers association, past president of the local chapter of the American Diabetes Association and in more recent years very active with the alumni of the Ross High School class of 1935. Al left a legacy of love, devotion, leadership, humor, respect, the importance of a strong, firm handshake and a superior work ethic to his family including son Ernest (Barb) Hetrick of Marion, Ohio, daughters Sandra (Maury) Gnepper of Fremont, Penny (Don) Fausey of Fenton, Michigan and Patricia (Jerry) Semer of Bellevue, Ohio, daughter in-law Jane Fuller Hetrick of Colorado,12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren (and counting). He was preceded in death by his wife, Cleone in 1997 and son Al Jr in 1990. Als warm smile, loving hugs and extraordinary hosting skills will be missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 20, 2005 from 5-7 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Fremont. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 21 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church where the body will lie in state on hour before the services. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery with Military Services by the VFW and American Legion. The family request memorials be given to the American Diabetes Association or St. Johns Lutheran Church in Fremont, Ohio.
