Donald W. Hoffman

June 20, 1932 — October 11, 2005

Donald W. Hoffman, 73, died at his residence early Tuesday morning, October 11, 2005. He was born on June 20, 1932 in Fremont to Max and Helen (Smith) Hoffman. On October 13, 1962 he married Betty Jean Petoskey in Mt. Pleasant, MI and she survives. Donald served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and was Honorably Discharged. He was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church, Fremont, the BVA (Blind Veterans Association), V.I.S.T. (Visually Impaired Service Team) and lifetime member of the VFW. Donald worked as a meat packer for Peter Eckrich & Sons, retiring in 1987.

Surviving are daughters Barbara Hoffman of Manassas, VA, Linda (David) Bell of Fremont, Bonnie Hoffman and dedicated friend, Jim Boomer Moll of Gibsonburg; grandchildren, Gene Thomas, Matt Chunk Chesnutte, Brandon Chesnutte, Missy Hoffman, Chris Thomas, and Megan Martin. He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Donald W. Hoffman II and his leader dog, Zack.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Fremont. A Memorial service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Sherry Calvert of Stein Hospice officiating.

Donalds body has been donated to Medical University of Ohio for research.
