Wilbur U. Hoffman, 85, died at his Helena home early Friday morning, December 7. Born in Helena on June 12, 1922 to the now deceased Urban and Julia (Nieset) Hoffman, Wilbur served in the Army during WW II. Stationed in the Pacific, the Philippines and Japan, one of his duties was being a passenger train conductor. He met many people as a conductor, several from home. It was his long time wish to go back some day. On June 11, 1949 he married his wife of over 58 years, Helen Ernst. They were married at the St. Marys Catholic Church in Millersville by Rev. Thomas Marlborough. Helen survives. Wilbur was a member of the St. Michaels Catholic Church in Gibsonburg, a life member of the Gibsonburg American Legion Post and a volunteer with the Helena Volunteer Fire Department. Also surviving are children Susan (Terry) Bolen of Fremont and Dan (Julie) Hoffman of Helena; grandchildren Andrew & Samantha Hoffman, Marc and Allison Bolen. He is preceded in death by siblings Mary Willis, Lucille Hoffman and Herman Bun Hoffman. Funeral services will be Monday, December 10, 10:30 a.m., at the St. Michaels Catholic Church in Gibsonburg. Rev. Ted Miller will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday 1-3 & 6-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Gibsonburg where vigil services will be held at 2:45 p.m. Burial with military rites performed by the Gibsonburg American Legion Post will be at St. Marys Cemetery, Millersville.
Memorial contributions in Wilburs name may be made to Hospice of Memorial Hospital or to St. Michaels Church.
