Leon Carl Hoover, 71, of Fremont, died on Monday, February 18, 2008 at Memorial Hospital. He was born on December 8, 1936 in Bellevue, OH to the late Zerah and Leta (Myers) Hoover and he was raised by an aunt & uncle, Perry & Mabel Auble. Leon was a graduate of Thompson High School and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 1966 as a weapons mechanic. From 1966 through 1973, he worked for various printing companies. He was then on active duty with the Ohio Air National Guard in Port Clinton, from 1973 until retiring in 1983. Leon loved his country and was proud to serve it. He also was an active participant in the National Rifle and Pistol matches at Camp Perry in Port Clinton. As a member of the Air National Guard, he assisted in the Tornado of 1977 and the Blizzard of 1978; was a member of the Clyde Jaycees and a Scout Master in Fremont.
Also surviving are his children: Judith (Timothy) Henderson of Green Springs and Michael (Aileen) Hoover of Mason, OH; grandchildren, Jeremiah L. Gyurica, Brian K. Henderson, Anthony J. Hoover, Mary E. Hoover and Thomas J. Hoover; one great-grandson, Terrence Hoover and a half-sister, Pat Chapman of Sandusky. He is preceded in death by his parents; 12 siblings and 2 half-brothers; son, Richard Hoover and a great-granddaughter, Hailey Lynn Fite. Leon leaves behind many friends from Karens Restaurant in Fremont, fellow service members, and many other family members.
Visitation will be on Friday, February 22 from 6-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Military Rites. Burial will be private at Armstrong Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Fremont Memorial Hospital.
