Elsie M. Antesberger Howe, 89, of Fremont, died Thursday March 9 at Fremont Memorial Hospital. She was born on May 26, 1916 in Shafer, North Dakota to the now-deceased William and Laura (Martin) Balsizer. When Elsie was three, her family moved to Ohio. Elsie was a 1934 graduate of Fremont Ross High School. On April 9, 1938 she married Karl J. Antesberger. He died in 1972. She then married Gilbert Howe in 1987 and he died December 1999. Elsie was a homemaker and a member of Grace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards and her grandchildren. Elsie was active in the Riley Mothers Study Club, a Riley Precinct worker for 20 years, a volunteer for the Hospital for over 30 years, retiring in 2004, a Sunday School teacher for 12 years, a choir member, a member of the Farm Bureau Council Can Do, a member of the Altar Guild, the Women Hope Missionary Circle, the Program Chairman for the In-Betweeners and a Red Cross Board Volunteer. Surviving are children John W. (Faye R.) Antesberger, Thomas L. Antesberger, Kaye (Gary) Willey, all of Fremont, Cynthia Cindy J. (David) Young of Fremont/Marblehead and Paul M. (Shelley) Antesberger of Rossford, OH; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Dan) Anstead, Lisa (James) Abdoo, Karla Antesberger, Jennifer (Joel) Roberts, Karl John (Leslie Mears) Antesberger, Tim Willey, Dan Willey, Lori (Scott) Nossaman all of Fremont, Julie (Mark) Walker of Catawba, Amy (Mike) Thomas of Perrysburg, Erica (Marcus) Granado of Chicago, Jason Antesberger of Chicago IL, Brent Antesberger of Decatur, IL, Danielle and Jennifer Wamer both of Maumee; thirteen great-grandchildren, and a brother, Jim (Nancy) Balsizer of Clyde and special friend Bob Hyde. She is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, a great-grandson, Derek Anstead, siblings Russell Balsizer, Grace Lindsay and Jean Ross.
Visitation will be on Sunday, March 12, from 2-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. Services will be held on Monday at Grace Lutheran Church at 10:30 a.m. with visitation at church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grace Church Choir Fund, Northwest Ohio Diabetes Association or the Sandusky County Red Cross.
