Michael Hrynciw Sr., 83 of Sandusky and formerly of Fremont, died on December 8, 2008 at the Sandusky Veterans Home. He was born on June 7, 1925 in Mount Union, PA to Mary Katrinka (Belik) and Wasyl Hrynciw. On June 21, 1947, he married Clara Belle Byers and she preceded him in death in December 1989. Michael served in the US Army during WWII. His service included the invasion of Normandy Omaha Beach on the second wave. He was attached to the Third Army which was under General Patton and served with General Patton until the end of the war. Michael also served in Normandy, Central Europe, Northern France, Rhineland and Ardens. He is the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal with 5 bronze stars and was honorably discharged on December 31, 1945 with the rank of sergeant. Michael drove semi truck for Red Star Trucking Company in Detroit and Bowlus Trucking Company in Fremont. He also drove for Signal Delivery located in Clyde. Michael retired after 38 years in the trucking industry. He was a longtime member of St. Anns Catholic Church, the American Legion Post 121 in Fremont, where he helped with the Color Guard and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars #2947. Mike enjoyed playing horse shoes and card games. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are children, Cynthia (Alfred King) Skutt of Fremont, Michael Jr. (Darla) of Port Clinton, Anna Marie Baxter (Karen Martin) and Mary (Patrick) Keegan of Fremont; 13 grandchildren , 22 great grandchildren and sister, Stella Hinds of Erie PA; many nieces, nephews and special friends. . He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Fred and John, sisters, Ann Meyer, Helen Alexander and Mary Nickoloff. Visitation will be on Friday, December 12, from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. A Funeral Mass will be said on Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion and VFW.
Memorials may be made to the Ohio Veterans Home or to the Kidney Foundation in Michaels memory.
