Millie Hughes

Millie Hughes, 89, of Gibsonburg, went to be with the Lord on June 5, 2007. She was born on August 25, 1917 to Charles (Scaffidi) and Teresa (Speziale) Felle and was one of twelve children. Her parents immigrated to the United States from Brolo, Sicily in 1883, and at the age of 10 she and her family moved to Gibsonburg, Ohio. She married Cover Tubby Hughes on August 24, 1936 at St. Michaels Catholic Church. They had one child, Marvin who resides in Burlington, Wisconsin. Throughout her life she had numerous jobs outside her home, which included being a mid wife, babysitting, volunteering for her church at Trinity United Methodist, working for H. J. Heinz Company, Carbon Works, the Home Banking Company, the Gibsonburg Canning Company, and along with her husband, Tubby, they maintained a paint and wallpaper business until 1980. Perhaps her most remembered position was that of cook at Gibsonburg Elementary School for 18 years. Millie always believed that Gods purpose for her in life was to help others. She did this daily giving unselfishly of her time, talents and love to hundreds of children and staff through her cooking, baking and genuine compassion shown to all. She was known to most as Aunt Millie, and the impact she made onto others will never be forgotten. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, two brothers and five infant siblings. Surviving are her son, Marvin (Stephanie) of Burlington, WI; sisters, Mary (Felle) Baumer and Lena (Felle) Geldin, both of Fremont; numerous nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 7th from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Gibsonburg. Services will be on Friday at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Pastor Fritz Merkes will be officiating. Burial will follow at West Union Cemetery.
