Leona Irene Joseph, 96, of Fremont died Thursday at Riverview Health Campus in Oak Harbor, being a resident of 10 years. She was born in Oak Harbor, OH, the daughter of the now deceased Henry and Elizabeth (Moerder) Tretow. She married Walter Frederick Joseph on November 29, 1928, in the parsonage of the St. Johns Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor. Walter preceded her in death in October 1990. Leona resided at the Joseph family farm on Rt. 53, Fremont until 1991, when it was sold. It is now the Red Barn Farm Market. She then lived in the Oak Harbor Retirement Village until 1995. She was a homemaker, gardener, housekeeper for the Exit 6 Motel, cook for the Thunderbird Restaurant and Dons Drive In. She enjoyed cooking for the whole family on Sundays. She was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church, Fremont. Leona is survived by her daughter, Marie (Ollie) Grabowski, 3 grandchildren Ann (Lester) Ford and William (Cindy) Wagner both of Elmore, OH and Mary Krueger of Holland, OH; 12 great-grandchildren Angela (Steve) Cook, Jennifer (Steve) Burner, James Helmeri; Laura Moore, Brenda (Steve) Posey; Chad, Luke, Matthew, Hannah, Rachel, Nicholas, and Aaron Wagner; 10 great-great grandchildren Tyler and Courtney Burner; Skyler and Taylor Helmeri; Ian, Liz, and Liv Cook; Alex and Dustin Jones; and Morgan Posey; niece, Bernice (Edgar) Cook. She is preceded by her parents, husband, brother Bill Tretow, sister Cleta Joseph, nephew, Willard Joseph and son-in-law, Verle G. Wagner.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Fremont. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Paul Gruetter officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church, Riverview Nursing Home or Donors Choice.
