Nathan Daniel Kern

Gibsonburg resident Nathan Nate Daniel Kern, 36, died Wednesday afternoon, July 7, 2010 from injuries he suffered in an industrial accident in Fremont.

Born on November 1, 1973 at the Wood County Hospital, Nate was one of three sons of John and Linda K. (Pratt) Kern. In 1992 Nate graduated from Gibsonburg High School where he was a wrestler and later attended welding and auto CAD courses at Terra Community College in Fremont. Nate once was a lifeguard at the White Star Park. During that time he met his wife, Maria Mary Diaz. They were later married in Fremont on Sept. 11, 1998. He was working as a welder/fabricator for 15 years with B&W Welding, Fremont.

Nate is survived by his wife of Gibsonburg; parents of Helena; children Raven and Daniel at home; brothers Tony (Genevieve) of Singapore and Josh of Hessville; grandparents, Marylou Ziss of Englewood, FL, Don L. Ziss of Bowling Green and Gerald and Wilberta Kern of Helena; father-in-law, Alfredo Diaz and many other family members and his band of brothers.

His uncles, Tom, Tim and Jerry Kern and Steve Ziss and mother-in-law Clarita Diaz precede him in death.

Nate was a wonderful family provider and father. He enjoyed riding his Harley and spending time with family and friends in Nates Garage Club. He also liked sports, especially the Steelers and Yankees and shooting and starring in short films with his brothers.

Funeral services will be at the St. Michaels Catholic Church in Gibsonburg on Tuesday, July 13 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be Monday at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Gibsonburg from noon to 8 p.m.

His wishes were for his body to be cremated and burial will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Nate Kern Family Memorial Fund c/o any Fifth Third Bank Branch Office.
