Ervin A. Kerns, age 84, died unexpectedly at his rural Fremont home Saturday morning, March 17.
Born on November 25, 1922 in Fremont to Webb and Clara (Krauss) Kerns, Ervin attended Fremont Ross High School and enlisted in the Navy during WW II. Following his military duties in the Philippines, he married Phyllis Fahle on November 9, 1947 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hessville. She survives him. A full time farmer, Ervin was a member of the Sandusky County Farm Bureau, the Green Thumb Couples Council and the FFA Card Playing Club. Ervin was also a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hessville where he had previously served on its Council for 25 years.
In addition to his wife, Ervin is survived by his children Roger Allen Kerns of Fremont and Sara (Steve) Siegenthaler of Tiffin, brother Harold of Fremont, sister Evelyn Hartley of Colorado. Ervin is also survived by his, grandchildren whom he dearly loved Scott, Sheryl and Shanna Siegenthaler and great granddaughter Alexis.
Ervin is preceded in death by his parents and sisters Ruth Moyer, Eileen Hartley and Helen King.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 21 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Hessville where his body will lie in state one hour prior to the start of the funeral. Friends will be welcomed Tuesday 2-4 & 6-8 at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Fremont.
Burial with military rites performed by the Fremont posts of the American Legion and VFW will be at the Washington Chapel Cemetery, Fremont
Memorials in Ervins name may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church or to the donors choice.
