Helen R. Kerns

Helen R. Kerns, 89, died early Friday morning in Fremont at the home of her son. She was born on July 9, 1920 to Edward and Lola (Morgan) Harris in Sheldon, Illinois and lived in western Indiana during her childhood. She graduated from Kentland (Indiana) High School and was a lifelong homemaker. Helen married Russell E. Kerns on Jan. 25, 1946 at Grace Lutheran Church in Fremont, where she remained a member until her death. Russell died on Aug. 21, 2000. Russell and Helen resided in Fremont until 1982 when they moved to Amador County, California. She relocated back to Fremont in 2001. Helen enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends along with gardening, landscaping and crossword puzzles. Surviving are daughters Patricia Kerns of Columbus, Ohio and Linda Kerns of Santa Rosa, California; sons James Kerns of Pagosa Springs, Colorado and Jon (Pamela) Kerns of Fremont; and grandchildren Alyssa, Aaron and Emily Kerns, all of Fremont. She is also survived by her beloved brother Rex Harris of Fairfield, California. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers Russell Harris and Daniel Harris and sisters Edna Harris, Lola Landerman, Mildred McDaniel and Pauline Harris. Funeral services will be at Grace Lutheran Church, 705 W. State Street, Fremont, Ohio on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Paul Gruetter will officiate. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, Nov. 4 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home in Fremont. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Fremont. Contributions in Helens memory may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, Fremont.
