Roy W. Kirsch, 96, of Gibsonburg died at his home on Tuesday, July 15, 2008. He was born on May 7, 1912 in Gibsonburg to the now deceased Jacob C. and Caroline (Wilhelm) Kirsch. Roy attended Gibsonburg Public Schools and the Toledo Barber College. He served in the U. S. Navy during WWII from February 17, 1944 to October 22, 1945 as Ships Service, Petty Officer, 2nd Class. On October 21, 1935 he married Martha Alberta Haubert at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Gibsonburg and she preceded him in death on February 27, 2008. Roy was owner/operator of Kirschs Barber Shop in Gibsonburg where he began barbering in September 1930. Through the years he barbered with his father, Jacob Kirsch, brother, Otto Kirsch, nephew, Bill Kirsch and son, James Kirsch. Roy was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church, the K of C Council #2280 and the Welker-Smith Post #17 of the American Legion. He was a founding member of the Gibsonburg Business Association.
He is survived by his children, Donna L. Kirsch, James Kirsch, Carole Ann (John) Srodes; grandson, Derek Srodes and granddaughter, Holly Blanton; great-granddaughters, Abigail and Emily Blanton; sister-in-law, Helen Kirsch of Gibsonburg; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers Carmont, Otto, Clair & Henry Kirsch, sisters Helen Sterzel, Catherine Sneider, Florence Blust, and granddaughter, Lisa Srodes.
Visitation will be on Friday, July 18 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home, Gibsonburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Michaels Catholic Church, Gibsonburg with Rev. Don Mueller officiating. Burial will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Gibsonburg. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to St. Michaels Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #2280, Gibsonburg Veterans Memorial or to a charity of the Donors Choice.
