Larry Longanbach, 66, of Fremont died Friday morning at Fremont Memorial Hospital. He was born on April 7, 1940 in Fremont to Earl W. & Olive (Rosenberger) Longanbach. On June 27, 1959 in St. Pauls Church in Clyde, he married the love of his life Connie Baker and she survives. Larry graduated from Ross High School in 1958, which was the last class to graduate from the old building on Croghan St.. Larry was a member of the Ross High School Football team in 55, 56 & 57 as a middle guard. He was an integral part of the teams success in establishing a 30-game unbeaten streak. He earned All-Conference, All-Ohio, and All-America honors. He was also voted to the All-Time Fremont Ross Football Team as a defensive lineman. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kingsway and was a member of the church dartball team. He was a Charter member of the Sandusky Township Fire Department, which he helped to establish in 1964. He served as Captain from 1964-1970, Assistant Fire Chief from 1970-1979, and Chief from 1979-1998, and remained an active member until his death. He was a founding member of Sandusky Twp EMS, which was the first public EMS system in Sandusky County. He was a past recipient of the Exchange Club Firefighter of the Year. He was a member of the Fremont Young Farmers, Top Ohio Young Farmer in 1968, Fremont Jaycees Farmer of the Year, a member of the Trail Blazers 4-H Club where he also served as an advisor. He was a member of the Sandusky County Pork Producers, Fremont Pickle & Tomato Growers Assoc., Sugar Beet Growers Assoc., Ohio Spotted Swine Assoc., Ohio Holstein Assoc., past member of the Fremont FFA, where he earned the Chapter Farmer; State Farmer and American Farmer Degrees. A member of Fremont FFA Alumni, past chairman of the Fremont FFA Toy Show, and was awarded an Honorary Chapter Farmer Degree. He was a long-time host of the Fremont Schools 5th grade farm tour. He served on the Board of Directors for Rural Serv Inc., a member of Sandusky Co. Farm Bureau and was also a member of the Fremont Eagles. He also was a member of the Saturday night YMCA Bowling League. Larry enjoyed hunting in Wyoming & Canada, and loved boating and snowmobiling with family and friends. He was a self-employed farmer until 2000, and during the winter months for the past 17 years he worked for Strano Farms in Florida, and was employed by Charles Jones Produce, LLC. Surviving are children; Terri (David) Sattler of Arcadia, Kimberly (Paul) Elfring of Clyde, Christie (Dean) Schneider, and Michael (Kathy) Longanbach all of Fremont, grandchildren; Stacy, Joshua, Jordan, Seth and Olivia Sattler, Brad, Kyle and Kay Elfring, Stephanie, Alexis, McKenzie and Garrett Schneider, his mother Olive Longanbach, sister Sandy Overmyer, mother-in-law Mary Willer, and Grandmother Helen Aldrich. Larry was preceded in death by his father. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont from 1-9 PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at Faith Lutheran Church, Fremont at 10:30 AM with Pastor Keith Koppenhofer officiating. Burial will follow at Four Mile House Cemetery, Fremont. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to be made to the Sandusky Twp Fire Dept, Fremont Ross Athletic Boosters, or to Trinity Lutheran Church, Kingsway.
