Margaret (Pender) Maike, 91 of Fremont, died on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at Firelands Regional Hospital in Sandusky. She was born on June 19, 1917 in Akron to Arthur J. and Frances L. (Bennett) Pender. Margaret graduated in 1935 from John R. Buchtel High School in Akron. While working at Polskys in Akron, she met her husband, Robert F. Maike, whom she later married on August 18, 1940 at the Church of Our Savior. He preceded her in death on January 14, 1999.
Margaret worked in the Fremont City Hall as a secretary for the Mayors office, serving with six elected Mayors. She also worked at the Sandusky County Auto Club for 19 years, retiring in July of 1982. She was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church in Fremont and was an active member and performer at the Towne & Country Theatre in Norwalk and the Huron County Quilt Club.
Surviving are children, Kathleen (Bill) Bogner of Avon, Bruce (Connie) of Oak Harbor and Marilyn (Phil) Wastler of Helena; grandchildren, Laina Lamb, Eric Maike, Mark Bogner and Ashley Misson; and great-grandchildren, Jordan, Max, Noah, Cooper, Emmitt and Ethan.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband and brother Frank Pender.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 23 from 5-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. Services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Keith Koppenhofer officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Marks Lutheran Church or to the Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky.
