Doris Ione Stout May, 98 of Fremont, died at Elmwood Assisted Living early Thursday morning. She was born on January 4, 1907 in Riley Township to William Earl and Ethel (Lance) Stout. Doris graduated from Fremont High School in 1924 as Valedictorian and also attended Bowling Green State University for 2 years. On February 21, 1927 she was married to Glendon Earl May at Vickery Methodist Church parsonage by Rev. Louisa Litzel. They moved from Clyde to Ballville Township in March 1940. Glendon died November 18, 1991, at the age of 90. Doris was a member of Old Fort United Methodist Church and the last member of the volunteer Sunday School Class. She also was a member of the United Methodist Women of Old Fort Church, Wolf Creek Farm Womens Club, Jackson Township Exchange Club, Farm Bureau Council, Hayes Presidential Center, and Sandusky County Historical Society. Doris retired after 20 years in the Old Fort High School Cafeteria in 1969. Surviving are children Betty DeCicco of Ledgewood, NJ, Richard (Ellen) May of Fremont, eight grandchildren Chris Appelbaum, UT; Gayle McDonough, PA; Sarah (Bill) Murray, Susan (Andy) Kovalinsky and Julie (Jeff) Farneski all of NJ; Sheryl (Steve) Neiling, OH; Lisa Skulina, OH and Rick (Jenny) May, GA and fourteen great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, daughter, Marilyn Appelbaum (March 26, 1980), and her only brother Ralph Stout who died Nov. 8, 1996. Visitation will be Sunday, July 24 from 2 5 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Fremont. A funeral service will be on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Scott Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Old Fort United Methodist Church or Hospice of Memorial Hospital.
