Elsie Nuhfer, age 89, of Gibsonburg died Sunday evening, September 2, at the Windsor Lane Health Care Center in Gibsonburg.
Born on July 6, 1918 in Milan, Michigan to the now deceased John M. and Clara (Lueke) Roof, Elsie graduated from the Woodville High School in 1937. On January 6, 1940 she married her husband of over 67 years, Charles Nuhfer at the Our Lady of Lourdes Rectory in Genoa. Together she and her husband owned and operated Nuhfers Flowers in Gibsonburg. A member of the St. Michaels Catholic Church and its Altar Rosary Society, Elsie also belonged to the Gibsonburg American Legion Auxiliary, and was the former Past President of the Fremont VFW Auxiliary.
A devoted wife, and loving mother and grandmother, Elsie was known to be genuinely friendly and to be a very hard worker. She is survived by her daughter Jean (Charles) Obenauer of Gibsonburg, grandchildren Christina (Bret) Jonas, John (Michelle) Obenauer and Carrie (Franklin) Kaiser, 4 great grandchildren and a great great grandson, and sisters Frances Allen of California and Dorothy Spencer of Michigan.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Jane and siblings Catherine Van Horn, Harry Roof, Florence Gutekunst and Marguerite Young.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at the St. Michaels Catholic Church in Gibsonburg on Friday, September 7, 10:30 a.m. Rev. Ted Miller will officiate. Friends and family will be welcomed at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Gibsonburg Thursday 2-9 p.m. with the family present from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. There will be Memorial Services of the VFW Auxiliary Post 2947 at 7:00 p.m. and wake services at 8:30 p.m. that evening.
Burial will be at West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg.
Memorials in Elsies name may be made to the church.
