Richard A. Olmstead

Richard A. Dick Olmstead, 73, of Gibsonburg, died peacefully Saturday afternoon, August 15, 2009 at his home. He was born in Toledo on August 18, 1935 to the now deceased Glenn and Thelma (Moon) Olmstead. He graduated from MacComber Vocational High School. Dick was stationed in Seoul during the Korean conflict, serving with the Marines from 1953 to 1956. On June 15, 1957 he married his wife of 52 years, Betty Senger, in Toledo and she survives. He was employed at the former Gibsonburg, Pemberville and Luckey Farmers Elevator as a mill man for over 28 years. He later worked security until his retirement in 1999. Dick was a member of the Fremont VFW and Eagles, the Gibsonburg American Legion Post, and he enjoyed camping and NASCAR. He was a member of St. Michaels Church in Gibsonburg.

Survivors include his wife; children, Cheryl (George) Shreffler of Gibsonburg, Carol (Bob Lash) Binder of Fremont, Cathy (James) Shammo, Richard (Lori) Olmstead, and Cindy (Jeff) Holcomb all of Gibsonburg; thirteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, and two more on the way; siblings, Nancy Tilman of SC, Shirley (Edward) Ramm, Evelyn Turner, and William (Sharon) Olmstead all of Toledo, Jim (Linda) Olmstead and Don (Pat) Olmstead both of Gibsonburg, Jack (Alta) Olmstead of FL, and Darrell (Connie) Olmstead of Upper Sandusky; and half-siblings, Charles Leist and Gladys Demaline both of Delta, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Glenn, Doris Demics, Dennis, and Carol Jean Olmstead.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Gibsonburg. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michaels Catholic Church, Gibsonburg, with Rev. Ted Miller officiating. Military rites will be performed by the American Legion. Burial will be at a later date at West Union Cemetery.

Memorial donations honoring Dick may be made to the American Heart Association, Leukemia Foundation or Stein Hospice.
