Gladon Pete Layne Otermat, 73 of Fremont, died Sunday evening at Valley View Care Center, Fremont. He was born on May 16, 1933 in Fremont to the now deceased James Croghan and Willah Wave (Waggoner) Otermat. Gladon was a 1951 Fremont Ross graduate. On May 16, 1952 he married Kathleen Marie Durdel at Grace Lutheran Church and she survives. Gladon owned and operated along with his son-in-law, Steve Young Otermats Sunoco Service Station in Bellevue where he enjoyed serving his customers and meeting new people for 38 years, retiring in 2004. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and WaJaSa Farm Council. In his youth he was a member of the Trail Blazers 4-H Club and Future Farmers of America. Surviving are daughters, Laurie Christopher of Bellevue, Chris (Steve) Young of Fremont. He was a loving grandfather to three grandchildren, Nick (Jamie) Christopher, Jessica Christopher, Nathan (Camaron) Young; four great-grandchildren, Jordon Schaefer, Dillon Christopher, Hannah & Elijah Young; brother, Scott (Katherine) Otermat and sister, Sara Tanner all of Fremont. He is preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. Funeral services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with one-hour visitation prior to the service at church. Pastor Chris Young and Certified Celebrant Maureen Pump will be officiating. Burial will follow at Four Mile House Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church Boiler Fund or to Saras African School Fund c/o the Otermat Family.
