Lindsey Fire Chief, Thomas Overmyer, 58, of Fremont, died Saturday, March 4th at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. He was born on July 19, 1947 in Fremont to Dewey and Lois (Hufford) Overmyer. He was a 1965 graduate of Lakota High School and on September 16, 1966 he married Sandra Kay Longanbach in Kingsway and she survives. Tom was a lifelong farmer and owned and operated T Jays Produce Market on Napoleon Road. He also ran an auto body shop from his farm. Tom was a 39 year member of the Lindsey Volunteer Fire Department, serving as a First Responder, and Assistant Chief. For the last 27 years he has served LVFD as its Fire Chief. Tom served as a member of the Sandusky County Fair Board for 7 years, was a member of the Fremont Speedway Committee, President of the Sandusky County Ag Society for 4 years, a member of Fremont FFA Alumni, an Honorary Member of Fremont FFA, the Fremont Pickle and Tomato Growers Association, Sandusky County Food Steering Committee, Ohio Vegetable Growers Assoc, the Sugar Beet Assoc., Chairman of the Fremont Toy & Doll Show, Sandusky County Fair Beef Committee, the Sandusky Beef Producers Association, past member of Sandusky County Farm Bureau, a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Kingsway, a member of the NFIB and a lifetime member of the Eagles. Tom was also an avid toy collector and NASCAR fan.
Surviving are his children, Jodi (Harley Butch) Kiser of Helena, Chad (Wendy Novitski) Overmyer of Fremont, Wendy Todd of Fremont; grandchildren, Kiara Crawford, Whitney & Cassie Overmyer, Makayla & Mariah Kiser; brother in law, Larry (Connie) Longanbach, three nieces, one nephew and his dogs, Bear & BJ. Tom is also survived by his LVFD of 42 members.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 7th from 6-9 p.m., Wednesday from 2-9 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. Funeral services with Firemens Rites will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Fremont with Rev. Todd Gates and Pastor Keith Koppenhofer officiating. Burial will be at Lindsey Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Lindsey Volunteer Fire Dept. or the Sandusky County Fair Board in Toms name.
