Ruth C. Peffly, 99 of Fremont, died early Friday, January 14, 2011 at Countryside Continuing Care Center after a brief stay, but has been a resident at the Rutherford House since 2003. She was born on June 1, 1911 in Riley Township to Lewis and Clara (Werth) Hirt. Ruth was a 1929 graduate of Fremont Ross High School and attended Bowling Green State University. She taught in the Schoch and Garvin one room schools in Riley Township. On May 29, 1936 she married Paul J. Peffly and he preceded her in death on November 2, 1987. Ruth was a long time and active member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, many years a church choir member and a member of the Lydia and Miriam Circles and Church Women United. She was a member of Sandusky County Farm Bureau, the Nifty Neighbors Farm Council and a life member of the Sandusky County Historical Society. Ruth retired from Howard Zink Corporation in 1973.
Surviving are many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; siblings, Freda V. Brugger, Helen E. Hiebel, Grace L. Zilles, Marian E. Diedrich, Lawrence L. Hirt, Julius A. Hirt, Alfred C. Hirt, Jesse W. Hirt and Russell R. Hirt.
Services will be on Monday, January 17, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church with one hour of visitation at church prior to the service. Pastor Keith Koppenhofer will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials, if desired, made to St. Mark Lutheran Church or to the Sandusky County Historical Society.
