Kenneth D. Porter, 70, of Fremont, died Wednesday afternoon at his home. He was born on December 13, 1935 in Cleveland, OH to the late Opal Porter. Kenneth was a graduate of Revena High School, Heidelberg College with a BA in Elementary Education, and Toledo University with a Masters Degree also in Elementary Education. On July 26, 1958 he married Marjie Shontz in Tiffin, OH and she survives. Kenneth was a teacher at Noble Elem. School in Tiffin and was principal at Hopewell-Loudon, Lake Elementary, Northwood Elem. and Middle School, retiring in 1990. Kenneth served in the U.S. Marines during peacetime and was a member of the VFW, Rossford Eagles, Moose, and Kiwanis. He served on the board of the Wood County Credit Union and Mid-Am Bank in Northwood. Ken was the president of outdoor resorts and loved deep-sea fishing and boating. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State University. Ken was a loving husband, father and papa.
Surviving are children, Kraig Porter of St. Clair Shores, MI, Lynn (Brian) Brubaker of Pittsburgh, PA, and Ann (Ted) Nichpor of Oregon, OH; grandchildren, Brittany, Alexis and Austin; and brother, Deryl (Carol) Porter of Warren, OH. He is preceded in death by his mother and sister, Marilyn Lawson.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont with Chaplin Beverly Henry officiating. Military rites will be performed by the American Legion and VFW.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Memorial Hospital at 430 S. Main St., Clyde, OH 43410 or the Humane Society of Sandusky County at 2520 Port Clinton Rd., Fremont, OH 43420.
