Salvador "Sam" Ramirez, 75, formerly of Gibsonburg, died Thursday at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Detroit. He was born in Warren, MN to the late Gilbert and Inez (Martinez) Ramirez and married Anita Chavez in 1964. She preceded him in 1989. Sam was an Army veteran of the Korean War and worked at the Woodville Lime Plant - formerly Ohio Lime and now called Steetly Lime Plant - until retiring about 12 years ago. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Gibsonburg, American Legion and the Fremont VFW. He is survived by sons, Salvador "Sam" Jr. of Berea, Ubaldo of Toledo and David of Millbury; daughters, Christine Belmares of Gilbralter, MI and Stacy Alfaro of Lansing, MI; brothers, Paul of Swanton, Robert of Toledo, Gilberto of Genoa and Basilio and Joe both of California; sisters, Carmen Garcia of Toledo, Nieves Rangel of Oregon and Janie Castillo of Texas; five grandchildren and one great-grandson. Sam is preceded by his parents, wife and sister Herlinda Martinez. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Saturday, 1-3 & 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Gibsonburg. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Fr. Ted Miller officiating. Burial: St. Lawrence Cemetery, Gibsonburg. Memorials: American Diabetes Association.
