Karen Sue (Fox) Rhodes, beloved wife of Mitchell Rhodes, died Saturday morning, July 9, 2011 at Memorial Hospital in Fremont. She was 62.
Born in Fremont on January 24, 1949, Karen was a daughter of the now deceased Harold and Leta (Swartzlander) Fox. She graduated from Gibsonburg High School in 1967 and was a long time resident of Helena. She married Mitchell in Gibsonburg on December 12, 1970 and he survives her. Together they enjoyed automobiles and car shows. For years, the two headed the Helena fundraising auto show.
Karen was a devoted wife, mother and grandma; she loved her family. She worked as homemaker and child caregiver, babysitter. She was also passionate about her church, Shiloh United Methodist in Helena. Karen collected snowmen, enjoyed going to craft shows and decorating her home in the country motif.
Surviving her is her son, Brian (Karin) Rhodes and their children Andrew, Lita and Lathon all of Cedar Lake, IN; and siblings Terri (Joe) Kays and Kevin (Lynn) Fox all of Gibsonburg and Sandy Wolpert of Grand Rapids, OH. Karen is preceded in death by her sister Judy Hayes.
Friends will be received by the family at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Gibsonburg on Wednesday, July 13, from 11a.m.-3 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 14, 10:00 a.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Helena where an additional hour of visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Rev. Judith Frank will officiate. Burial will follow at West Union Cemetery.
Contributions in Karens memory may be made to Shiloh United Methodist or to the Helena Volunteer Fire Department.
