C. Donald Roddy, 75, of Fremont, died on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Bethesda Care Center. He was born on August 8, 1936 in South Fork, PA to Lewis Asbury and Margaret (Wilt) Roddy. Donald attended Fremont Ross High School and served in the US Marine Corps during peacetime. Donald was a pressroom manager at the Fremont News Messenger until retiring in 1999. On September 2, 1961, he married Nancy C. Pump at Grace Lutheran Church, Fremont and she survives. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he sang tenor in the church choir, dedicated himself to the youth by serving as a Luther League advisor and Sunday school teacher. Donald was a devoted husband, father and doting grandfather. His family was his first passion. With his wife, Nancy and sister & brother-in-law, Diane & Willie Watts, he was an avid world-wide traveler who enjoyed experiencing new cultures and people. Don was a true Irishman at heart with always a twinkle in his eye. He was an original member of the Sleepy Hollow Golf Course and a near par golfer. He enjoyed fly fishing and model railroading. Surviving are daughters, Tamara R. (Chris) Holmes of Indianapolis, IN, Kimberly H. (Bob) Gabel of Fremont, Kelly A. Roddy of Bowling Green and her twin, Holly R. (John) Elder of Fremont; grandchildren, Erin & Zachary Gabel, Maeve & Claire Elder, Keelin and Connor McHugh; sister, Mildred (Roddy) Cooper of Salix, PA. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Elizabeth Brewer, Fran Yatsky, Danny, Kenneth, Ronald Roddy, Darlene Goodwin and Thomas Roddy. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 15, 2011 from 5-9 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. Services will be held on Friday at Grace Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. with one hour of visitation prior to the service at church. Pastor Jim Avers will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Donalds memory may be made to Grace Lutheran Church Choir Fund, to Stein Hospice or to the Alzheimers Association.
