Domenic Ruggiero

Domenic "Nick" Ruggiero, 82, of Gibsonburg died Sunday morning at Otterbein Portage Valley Retirement Village. Nick was born in Tiffin, the son of Salvitore "Sam" and Maria (Reino) Ruggiero. He married JoAnne M. Herman Oct. 6, 1948 and she survives. Nick was a sales rep for Cal-Van Tools, a division of Chemi-Trol, and prior to this he was a salesman for Tony's Bakery for 28 years. He was a high school football and basketball official for 34 years, having been inducted into the Ohio Officials Hall of Fame in April 2002. Throughout his years of officiating, he officiated a Class A Division football championship and the 1067 state basketball tournament. He was a 1939 graduate of Gibsonburg High School and a 6-man football All American. Nick served with the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII in the South Pacific. He was a life-member of the American Legion, Gibsonburg Post 17, a member of the K of C, Gibsonburg and VFW Fremont Post 2947.
