Arthur H. Schumaker, Jr., 80 of Fremont died early Monday morning at Bethesda Care Center, Fremont. He was born on November 15, 1924 in rural Woodville to Arthur H. and Luella May (Franks) Schumaker, Sr. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, being Honorably Discharged in 1955. He retired from the JE Baker Company, Dolomite Plant in Millersville, OH and the Ohio Lime Company also in Millersville where he was a primary stone crusher operator. On June 9, 1956 he married Maxine A. Copley in Angola, IN and she survives. Arthur was a member of the Shiloh United Methodist Church, Helena, Fremont Eagles, Golden Threads of Memorial Hospital, AARP and the retired Eagles Aeries Council. He and his wife were foster parents to many children throughout their lives and he enjoyed gardening and was an avid fisherman.
Surviving are daughters Annie (Bullwinkle) Greider, Clyde, Anita (Tom) Boyd, Tiffin, grandchildren-Kylie Carnicom, Jason (Amanda) Carnicom, Deanna Boyd, Daine Greider, Andrew Greider and sister Arlene Spanfellner, OR. He is preceded in death by parents, son, Charles Halladay, sister Pauline Hein, brothers John Henry Schumaker, Everett and Howard Stanfield.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Fremont. Services will be at the funeral home on Friday, 10:30 am, with Pastor Becky Schofield officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memory Garden, Clyde with Military Rites by Fremont VFW and American Legion Post.
Memorial donations may be made to the Church or Hospice of Memorial Hospital.
