Ward Sewell

Ward Sewell, 71 of Fremont died Saturday, April 14, 2007 surrounded by his family at Stein Hospice in Sandusky. He was born on May 31, 1935 in Abbeville, AL to Henry & Idell (Ward) Sewell. Ward graduated from Fremont Ross High School and after graduating enlisted into the Air Force where he served for 20 years fueling bombers, spending part of his time in Japan, Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam, retiring from the Air Force in 1975. After his service he also worked for Nickels Bakery and Eveready. Ward married Toshiko Akia on October 22, 1958 and she died in 1976. Later he married Renee Lawson in Toledo. He loved fishing, gardening, hunting, golfing, camping, boating, canning and spending time at his summer retreat in Port Clinton. Ward was a member of the Fremont American Legion Thurston-Zwir Post #121 and the Fremont VFW Post #2947. Surviving are two children; Ieboone Sewell of Columbus, and Christopher Ward Benson of Kokomo, IN, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren along with sisters; Jhonnie Mae (Claude) Price and Patsy (James) Price all of Fremont. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Toshiko, brothers; Horace Sewell, Henry Willie Sewell, and sisters; Lillian Smith and Mary Lama Davis. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2007 at Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM with Dr. Pat McKinstry officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde where military honors will be preformed by the Fremont American Legion and VFW. Memorial donations may be made to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870.
