Martha (Witker) Shilling, 88, formerly of County Road 212, Fremont and most recently a resident of Elmwood Assisted Living of Fremont died there Sunday morning, February 19.
She was born on May 15, 1917 in Troy Township in Wood County to Ernest and Carrie (Nieman) Witker. A graduate of the Flower Hospital School of Nursing, Martha made a career of her teaching and retired as a nurse. She was also a homemaker and a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Fremont. Martha enjoyed playing cards and accompanying her Elmwood neighbors on their day trips.
On September 8, 1945 she married Lester S. Shilling in Pemberville. He preceded her in death in 1996. Surviving her are sons Michael A. of Washington State and Larry P. (Karen) of Toledo, sister Wilma (Paul H.) Rolf of Pemberville and six grandchildren.
Martha is preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son Richard, and brother Edwin (Arvella) Witker.
Funeral services will be Thursday, February 23, 10:30 a.m., at Grace Lutheran Church in Fremont where her body will lie in state an hour prior to the start of the service. Pastor Paul Gruetter will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday, 2-4 & 7-9 p.m., at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 900 North Street, Fremont.
Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Fremont.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church or to the donors choice.
