Edgar P. Smith, 64 of Fremont, died on Sunday, December 28, 2008 at Memorial Hospital. He was born on October 29, 1944 in Toledo to the now deceased Edgar P. Sr. & Joan (Williams) Smith. Edgar graduated from Rogers High School in Toledo and attended the University of Toledo studying Engineering. He was a veteran serving in the Navy Air Reserve. On November 5, 1966 he married Carol Fix in Toledo and she survives. Edgar formerly worked at Borg-Warner and Mosser Construction and most recently worked for Stein Inc. in Sandusky as a Project Engineer. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fremont. Edgar was a firearms enthusiast, co-founding the Sandusky County Hawkeyes Muzzleloading Group and chaired the Hawkeye Gun Show at the Sandusky County Fairgrounds. He also was a member of Isaac Walton in Fremont, the NRA, and the Maumee Valley Gun Collectors. Surviving are children, Lisa (Allen) Taylor of Martin and Wendy (Eric) Westfere of Toledo; granddaughter, Mia Westfere; siblings, Charles of Point Place, OH, Fred (Diane) of Perrysburg, Stephen (Susan) and Daniel (Janice) both of Maumee, Sarah (Gary) Wend of Pemberville, Joan (Dan) Hetzner of Toledo; sister-in-law, Sandy Callahan of Cincinnati; brothers-in-law, Edward (Connie) Fix of Colorado and John (Barb) Fix of Rossford. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, David and sister-in-law, Jackie Smith. Cremation was handled by Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Fremont where family & friends will be received on Friday, January 2, 2009 from 4-8 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be said on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fremont with Rev. David Bruning officiating.
