LeRoy H. Smith, 76, of Fremont died Tuesday afternoon, May 10, in the emergency room of Memorial Hospital in Fremont.
He was born in Fremont on June 22, 1928 to Herman and Ruth (Grundy) Smith. LeRoy graduated from Fremont Ross High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was a previous police chief for Lindsay and Green Springs also working as a pipe fitter for Local 50 Plumbers and Pipe Fitters until his retirement in 1993. Leroy was a major contributor in the construction of the Handol and Korean Methodist Church in Sandusky, which he loved very much. He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Fremont, the Phoenix in Perrysburg and Past Master of the Portage Lodge in Elmore.
On September 16, 1980 he married Kyong Ok Park in South Korea. She survives. Also surviving are sons Thomas of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and David (Brenda) of Lindsey; stepdaughter Barbara (John) Brown, of Florida, brothers Jack (Dolores) of Gibsonburg, Glenn of Fremont and Ward (Karen)of Oak Harbor; sisters May Hefner of Oak Harbor, Nancy (Paul) Roach of Lindsey and three grandchildren, David A. Smith II, Fremont, Dallas and Brandy Smith, Lindsay. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Lois. Visitation will be on Friday, May 13 from 2 4 & 7 9 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Fremont. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 14 at 12 noon at the funeral home with Pastor Karl Ribbeck officiating.
Burial with military rites provided by Fremont American Legion and VFW, will be at Faith Lutheran Cemetery, Lindsey. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church.
