Virginia E. Smith, 77, of Gibsonburg died early Sunday morning at Elmwood Assisted Living of Fremont. Born in Fremont to Fred and Jean (Flower) Potts, Virginia graduated from Gibsonburg High School in 1945. On Nov. 20, 1947, she married Robert C. Smith at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Gibsonburg. He passed on May 13, 1994. Virginia was a former dental assistant for Dr. Sam Gruner in Gibsonburg and later retired from the Gibsonburg Library where she worked for many years. She was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Gibsonburg and its Altar Society. She enjoyed painting, crafts and reading, and was a member of the Gibsonburg Womens Federation, the Sandusky County Reach to Recovery, the Friends of the Gibsonburg Library and the Chatterbox Card Club of Gibsonburg. Surviving are children, Stephen C. (Suzy) Smith of London, OH and Nancy K. (Jim) Stout of Gibsonburg; brother, Richard F. (Linda) Potts of Gibsonburg; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Virginia is preceded by her parents, husband, son, Lawrence F. Smith and sister, Nancy Ann Potts. Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Gibsonburg with wake services that evening. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michaels Catholic Church, Gibsonburg. Burial: St. Lawrence Cemetery, Gibsonburg. Memorials: To the church, Gibsonburg Library, Elmwood Assisted Living of Fremont or the American Cancer Society.
