Loren H. Sommer

Loren H. Sommer, 87, of Lindsey, died Thursday in the emergency room of Memorial Hospital, Fremont. He was born on July 20, 1919 in Elmore to the now deceased Christ and Clara (Schultz) Sommer. Loren was a graduate of Elmore Harris High School and served in the Army Air Corp during WWII as an airplane mechanic. He delivered fuel oil in Toledo and farmed in Genoa. He then purchased his own farm property and later his familys farm where he worked full time. On September 21, 1940, he married Evelyn Beck in Oak Harbor, OH and she died in 1994. Loren enjoyed being an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, Fremont, and he loved farming. He & his wife used to travel to Florida and lived a simple life.

Surviving is his daughter, Janet (Ken) Bartizal of Vermilion, OH; son-in-law, Clyde (Cathy) Appleby of Toledo; brother, Wayne of Florida. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Charlene Appleby, an infant sister and brother, Robert.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 18 from 1-3 & 6-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. Services will be on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Robert Young officiating. Burial will follow at Faith Lutheran Cemetery.
