William Howard Stierwalt, Sr.

William Howard Stierwalt, Sr., Age 80, died Sunday at his Skyline Dr. home in Fremont. He was born March 23, 1923 in Fremont to Howard and Elizabeth (Klos) Stierwalt. Bill graduated from Fremont Ross where he was a member of the 1938 state championship swim team. He went on to the University of Notre Dame and obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. During WWII, Bill served in the U.S. Army Air Corp, 100th bomb group, stationed at the control tower of the Thorpe Abbott Air Force Base in England. After the war he started working at the former Hollinger Cutlery in Fremont. He then changed careers and begn working for the Department of Defense, Defense Contract Services Administration in Toledo. He served there for 30 30 years, retiring in 1983. In 1948 he married Mary Erchenbrecher. She passed in 1979. He then married Marla Jean Blue on January 22, 1988. She survives. Also, surviving are sons, Tom (Kathy) and Bill Jr. (Cindy) all of Fremotn; stepdaughter, Kathleen (Doug) Sheidler of Old Fort and stepson, Kim (Ann) Stiger of Oak Harbor; sister, Mary Haynes of Fremont; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Thomas, Tyler, Kyle, Sarah, Madalyn, Naomi, Billy III and Cynthia; stepgrandchildren, Jan and Jaime Pence, Rein Sheidler and Mary Jean and Jennifer Stiger and 2 step great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife, son Kenneth and brother, Robert. Burial was at St. Ann's Calvary Cemetery, Fremont.
